As anyone who spends time in the kitchen (albeit reluctantly in some cases!) can attest, a stainless steel knife set is the most essential item to have at your disposal. However, if due care is taken in the cleaning and storing of your stainless steel knife set it can be expected to have a very long life indeed.  The best way to care for your stainless steel knife set is to always rinse off acidic or salty foods straight away and then wash as normal in your dishwasher or by hand. Take care not to spill dishwasher detergent directly onto your knives as it may result in darkening of the stainless steel. 

What to look for when buying a stainless steel knife set 

A good quality stainless steel knife set will consist of a bread knife, a carving knife, a paring knife, a utility knife, a chef's knife, a cheese knife, a boning knife and a peeling knife.  Often your set may also include specialty knives for oriental cooking, stainless steel scissors, a knife sharpener and a full set of steak knives!  They are also carefully designed to be well weighted in your hand and are often aesthetically pleasing as well to also serve the purpose of adding to your kitchen design.
